*Local activists were reacting to the March 29 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirming a federal court ruling that Virginia's socomy law was constitutional. The Cleveland Gay Political Union sent letters to all major media. *The comic strip Doonesbury reintroduced its gay character without being suppressed by the Cleveland Press. Explaining that this did not represent a change in policy, the Press editoral department told High Gear that someone must have overlooked his reappearance. No wonder. The word "gay" was not used.

*On April 5 Pope Paul VI publicly denounced "horrible and slanderous insinuations" that he was gay.

*Oven Productions events in April included Casse Culin concert April 10; a Poetry Workshop with Big Mama April 11; and Holly Near in concert April 30.

*The Advisory Board for the Gay Community Services Center held its second meeting April 12.
